From Easy Entry to Expert-Level Modulation
L'introduction
LECO offers two powerful GCxGC modulation solutions designed to meet the diverse needs of modern analytical labs. The QuadJet GCxGC modulator is a dual-stage thermal system that delivers unmatched separation power and sensitivity—ideal for complex samples requiring the highest chromatographic resolution. Its cryogenic jets trap and re-inject analytes with precision, producing dramatically sharper peaks and up to 10x greater sensitivity than traditional 1D GC.
For labs seeking a streamlined, cryogen-free alternative, the Paradigm-Shift flow modulator and splitter offers full mass transfer and simplified operation, making GCxGC more accessible for routine workflows and high-throughput environments. Both systems integrate seamlessly with LECO’s Pegasus platforms and ChromaTOF software, providing a complete, user-friendly solution from injection to insight. Whether your priority is elite performance or operational efficiency, LECO’s GCxGC modulators empower your lab to see more, detect more, and do more.

QuadJet

Unmatched Separation Power
Delivers exceptional resolution through ultra-sharp peaks—as narrow as 50 milliseconds—with advanced dual-stage cryogenic modulation for exceptional resolution. QuadJet’s orthogonal column configuration enables comprehensive two-dimensional separation, while high-frequency modulation captures complex analyte profiles with clarity. Integrated secondary oven control optimizes peak shape and enhances class separation, ensuring precise, high-definition results across challenging samples.

Enhanced Sensitivity
Detects low-level compounds with greater confidence and clarity. Cryo-focusing boosts signal intensity by up to 10x, while concentrated injections significantly improve signal-to-noise ratios for trace-level detection. Quantitative analyte transfer between dimensions minimizes loss and preserves data integrity. The result is enhanced sensitivity for even the most complex sample matrices.

Proven Reliability
Provides proven performance in demanding, high-throughput environments. The rugged dual-jet design is built for continuous operation, with a cryogen-free option that simplifies maintenance and reduces operating costs. Integrated diagnostics and software alerts help ensure consistent, reliable results. Trusted by laboratories worldwide for over two decades, QuadJet delivers confidence you can count on.

Seamless Integration & Workflow Efficiency
Streamlines the workflow from method development to final results. Fully integrated with Pegasus GCxGC instruments and ChromaTOF software, the system offers guided setup with Simply GCxGC tools for faster optimization. Compatibility with both FID and TOFMS enables flexible dual-detection workflows. By combining qualitative and quantitative data in a single run, QuadJet reduces analysis time and increases lab efficiency.
Paradigm-Shift

Cryogen-Free Convenience
Simplifies operations without sacrificing performance. With no liquid nitrogen required, this cryogen-free solution reduces maintenance demands, consumable costs, and safety concerns. A refrigerated cooling system streamlines setup and day-to-day operation, making Paradigm-Shift easy to manage. Ideal for remote or resource-limited environments; it brings powerful GCxGC capabilities within reach.

Full Mass Transfer Modulation
Achieves reliable, quantitative results across diverse sample types. Paradigm-Shift’s Reverse Fill-Flush design ensures complete analyte transfer while maintaining integrity across a wide range of boiling points. By avoiding the freezing or volatilization issues common in thermal modulation, it delivers stable, consistent performance. The result is a dependable modulation you can trust for complex analyses.

Streamlined Operation
Maximizes uptime with a design built for simplicity and durability. Minimal moving parts deliver robust, dependable performance, while integrated control through ChromaTOF software enables unified method setup and operation. Fully compatible with LECO’s Pegasus BTX platforms, Paradigm-Shift fits seamlessly into existing systems. Ideal for routine QC, contract laboratories, and high-throughput workflows; this instrument keeps productivity on track.

Accessible GCxGC for Every Lab
Provides powerful two-dimensional separation—without added complexity. Designed with a lower barrier to entry, Paradigm-Shift offers a straightforward upgrade path from 1D GC systems. Pre-installed methods and an intuitive interface reduce training time and simplify adoption. This easy-to-operate instrument helps you make the move to GCxGC with ease.

How LECO’s GCxGC Modulation Solutions Function
When performing GC-FID analysis, most laboratories quantify compounds using the area of the FID signal. Real world samples are rarely clean and straightforward. For example, a diesel sample can have thousands of different compounds in a single injection. The more compounds in a sample, the higher the chance of coelution; this coelution will increase the FID signal, thus creating a high bias error in the measurement. With GCxGC performing two separate chromatographic separations in one experiment, the accuracy of the FID measurement is maintained.
Due to the orthogonal nature of the separation mechanism in GCxGC, coeluting compounds are easily pulled apart in a single run. True GCxGC instruments, such as the LECO QuadJet SD, improve upon simply running the same sample through two different columns by incorporating a modulation device. Peaks eluting from the primary column are quantitatively segmented into smaller sections prior to release onto the second column. This segmenting, along with the cryo-focusing of the modulator, can deliver peak widths as narrow as 50 ms to the second column.
