Of Fireworks and Tourism: GCxGC-HRMS Analysis of Summer Tourism on Lake Michigan
Referenznummer: LPSS-264
Einführung
This scientific study investigates the hidden environmental toll of Independence Day celebrations on Lake Michigan’s water quality by mapping the chemical spike caused by pyrotechnics and heavy beach tourism. Utilizing direct immersion SPME Arrow extraction paired with high-performance GCxGC-HRTOFMS, researchers successfully isolate and identify pre- and post-holiday contaminants ranging from fireworks byproducts to personal care residues like sunscreen and insect repellent. This approach provides environmental scientists with a robust blueprint for conducting full non-targeted water quality analysis to track human-driven pollution in vulnerable aquatic ecosystems.
