Our History
1936
Carl Schultz founds the Laboratory Equipment Company and introduces the first rapid carbon determinator for the steel industry.
1945
LECO develops its own line of combustion vessels during World War II.
1950
LECO creates the high-frequency induction furnace, significantly reducing analysis times.
1967
LECO establishes its first international presence by forming its German Export Division.
1970
LECO uses digital electronics to develop solid state infrared cells, resistance and induction furnaces, and advanced instrumentation.
1973
LECO introduces the industry’s first line of complete solutions for metallographic analysis.
1976
LECO introduces its first protein determinator, the NP-28 (now 828 and 928), to the organic and food markets.
1979
LECO’s SC-32, the industry’s first automated sulfur analyzer, replaces the tedious ESCHA wet chemistry method.
1980
LECO integrates internal microprocessors, self-calibration, self-diagnostics, and autosamplers into instrument designs, providing results in less than 30 seconds.
1983
LECO introduces the TGA moisture/ash series. The Carl E. Schultz Technical Center opens as a state-of-the-art research and development center.
1990
LECO releases the first GDS and ICP spectrometers into the market.
1993
LECO is certified and registered to the international quality standard ISO-9002, which is later upgraded to ISO-9001.
1997
LECO releases The Pegasus® GC-TOFMS, one of the first time-of-flight mass spectrometers in the marketplace.
2000
LECO introduces the TC-600 and CS-600 series of carbon/sulfur and nitrogen/carbon analysis equipment—the first instruments of their kind with built-in Windows®-based software.
2002
LECO introduces the TruSpec® elemental analyzer, changing the way the world performs protein analyses.
2006
LECO opens its Global Support Center, a 50,000-square-foot service and training facility.
2007
LECO opens the innovative Life Science & Chemical Analysis Centre, providing applications support and instrument training services.
2009
LECO introduces TruMac®—the first instrument capable of performing macro sample analysis since the mid-1980s.
2011
LECO launches the Cornerstone® platform, which includes touch-screen capabilities, along with its mass accuracy High Resolution TOFMS (HRT) technology.
2012
LECO opens the Elizabeth S. Warren Technical Centre for Separation Science, a facility dedicated to the research and development of innovative instrumentation.
2014
LECO introduces Cornerstone Mobile, an optional mobile remote viewing feature.
2016
LECO celebrates 80 years of innovation by introducing the Pegasus BT, a new benchtop GC-TOFMS.
2018
LECO opens its Customer Experience Center, a space dedicated to enhancing customers’ interactions with the company, its products, and its services.
2023
Introduced the GDS950, which excels in Compositional Depth Profile (CDP) analysis, performing significantly faster than competing techniques.
2024
Launched the Pegasus BTX, the smallest and most sensitive GC-TOFMS on the market.
