Carl Schultz founds the Laboratory Equipment Company and introduces the first rapid carbon determinator for the steel industry.

LECO develops its own line of combustion vessels during World War II.

LECO creates the high-frequency induction furnace, significantly reducing analysis times.

LECO establishes its first international presence by forming its German Export Division.

LECO uses digital electronics to develop solid state infrared cells, resistance and induction furnaces, and advanced instrumentation.

LECO introduces the industry’s first line of complete solutions for metallographic analysis.

1976

LECO introduces its first protein determinator, the NP-28 (now 828 and 928), to the organic and food markets.

LECO’s SC-32, the industry’s first automated sulfur analyzer, replaces the tedious ESCHA wet chemistry method.

1980

LECO integrates internal microprocessors, self-calibration, self-diagnostics, and autosamplers into instrument designs, providing results in less than 30 seconds.

1983

LECO introduces the TGA moisture/ash series. The Carl E. Schultz Technical Center opens as a state-of-the-art research and development center.

LECO releases the first GDS and ICP spectrometers into the market.

LECO is certified and registered to the international quality standard ISO-9002, which is later upgraded to ISO-9001.

LECO introduces the TC-600 and CS-600 series of carbon/sulfur and nitrogen/carbon analysis equipment—the first instruments of their kind with built-in Windows®-based software.
